Small, low-power PC?

I'm thinking about buying on of these : http://www.fit-pc.com/new/fit-pc-slim-s … tions.html to run arch as a home server and media center. I'm just a bit concerned about the CPU: is it fast enough to play DivX movies? So if any of you have one of these (or similar), or any knowledge of the capacities of the Geode CPU, please share!
Also, if you know of other similar small, low power pc which would be more suitable, please tell!

Don't know about a geode-based system, but I've got a core 2 based mini system from logic supply that works pretty well.

It's probably a good idea to go after one of those atom-powered nettops, such as eee box or wind pc (that one still isn't available). Soon there will be also dual-core atoms.

According to my experiencie, geode sucks really... but really bad.
I got one of those tiny packard bells with touchscreen, 20 hd, 1 gb. ram. I can't recall if it was clocked at 600 or 800 mhz, but the point was that it wasn't able to play any accelerated content very well (even under xp). But, if you want it for file server, it might be another story (I mean, for playing VOD remotely, it might work).

Thank you all for your answers. The eee box seems nice indeed, but I really, really don't want to pay the microsoft tax.

Not sure when it's going to be released, but the Athlon 64 2000+ is estimated to cost ~$90.

Interesting read, but they use a more power-hungry Intel chipset in that test that the one that comes in most netbooks and nettops (well, not many of those available yet ;-p).

Maybe Wind PC will come with Linux, at least its netbook counterpart comes with a fully fledged distro (unlike dumbed down distros in other netbooks), that's somewhat promising.

I'm not touching that with a 10 foot pole! (Or however they say it in the USA ) considering what your going to use it for, its a bad idea.
On the top of my list would be the KPC, they have pretty good prices - http://us.shuttle.com/KPC/
If there wasn't any other solution, I would go with something a lot like the new everex PC's - http://www.everex.com/products/gpc_mini/gpc_mini.htm

If you just want a divx/xvid box (no High Def.), buy an old xbox and put xbmc on it. You can stream your movies and almost all codecs are supported

fit-pc slim seems really awesome, but I am waiting for the dual lan version. I don't know if they'll actually make one, but there's a large demand over at their forum.

I am intending to use it as router and a torrent box using rtorrent.

lardon - check fit-pc forums, I think your question has already been answered.
