Dell Vostro 1310 [Solved]

I've got this laptop for about 4 months now. I had two attempts at installing arch on it and I failed and went back to ubuntu.

Everytime I tried it neither my ethernet card and wireless card worked. I'm thinking maybe it's the drivers' fault? In ubuntu everything works "out of the box" and that makes me wonder about it sad

I don't know what my ethernet card is, but I'll tell you later today (i'm at work now).

The wireless card is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG and arch sees it. I can even scan the networks, but I just can't connect to my AP. We use WPA2 personal.

I'd like some help with this, please.

Re: Dell Vostro 1310 [Solved]

what kind of wireless manager did you used?
i have vostro 1400 with the same wireless card. you have to install package called iwlwifi-3945-ucode to get wireless working. with netcfg2 i have no problems at all.
for wpa2 you need to install two packages called "wireless_tools" and "wpa_supplicant". they both come with netcfg as dependancies.
if you use (k)networkmanager or wicd, they should also come with them.

just do pacman -S iwlwifi-3935-ucode wireless_tools wpa_supplicant. and then install the wireless manager of choice.
alsa be sure, that you have "iwlwifi" module loaded in rc.conf.

Kernel 2.6.25 is the culprit . It has a broken module for your NIC. I had to install arch with the froscon build yesterday. It has kernel 2.6.26 and therefore a working module. I got my vostro just 2 days ago and Vista annoyed me after an hour of use. http://linuxtracker.org/index.php?page= … ed9ff40c16
