I was trying to install more lcd-friendly fonts, following the guide in the arch wiki, but now when I try to startx I get
/usr/bin/X: error while loading shared libraries: libfreetype.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
giving up
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error
What did I do and how do I undo it?

It means that xorg-server was built against the freetype2 package in the repos. You can either rebuild xorg-server against the libraries that you just installed, or you can use the stuff in the repos. The latter is recommended because the LCD stuff is included now.

And how do I do that?

Try reinstalling freetype2 package.
