X taking too much cpu

I first noticed this quite a while ago, but figured it would be solved in some update.
Recently, I'm experiencing huge screenlag in wine where there wasn't (and it disappearing as quickly as it came)
I'm going to recompile cedega, since I'm using their cvs as wine, but since I was yesterday watching a movie, that movie (first time) had some trouble too. And using top I found out it's X again.

Two questions:
- What could cause X to do that? It can be my nvidia too I persume.
- Will downgrade help? I don't really know which version worked perfectly, and I don't know if I need to downgrade my nvidia drivers again.

Thanks in advance,
X/ax

Re: X taking too much cpu

What output does top give you?  If we could see it we can determine what possibly is the cause of the problem.

Re: X taking too much cpu

Under normal circumstances, top gives me about 2% cpu (currently playing a video file to try and trigger the X thingy)
Anyhow, since I can't trigger it quickly as it seems, and I have to run for work, I've got a dual core, both 1.8ghz, currently in performance mode (mostly in ondemand, but I saw the same X issue in both)
When it starts, it's nearly impossible to interact with any window, but I can still use my mouse. And one of both cores is being used by X mostly 90+%

I can't seem to trigger it now sad

I can confirm this behaviour! My system is Dual-Core @ 3.00GHz; XFX GeForce 8600GT.
Here's my thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=428094
Read it if you want and see if you can find a fix. For me, even a clean re-install of Arch didn't help. hmm I hope you have more luck than I have.
