Hi,
currently openoffice´s PKGBUILD is nothing more than downloading a precompiled version of openoffice and making a package out of it.
I know, openoffice won´t build with GCC3.4
So why not still compiling it with gcc3.3.
Are there any problems with gcc3.3 compiled programs running on a gcc 3.4 compiled system ?
Openoffice 1.1.3 will be released soon.
We do not have a solution for building OOO like debian, i.e. one big package and smal packages for each language
I´d like to compile Openoffice 1.1.3 for all major languages with gcc3.3 und put it into /incoming. I know, these packages are huge, so it would be great if they are mirrored.
What do you think ?

Packages built against gcc3.3 will, at best, not work well with gcc3.4. More likely they will not work at all though.

Official packages should be built with other official packages, and the latest version.
Remember, Arch offers PKGBUILDs along with packages, and any enduser should be able to recompile the package himself, without anything "special".
CURRENT and EXTRA should not rely on things outside of the tree, and GCC 3.3 is not in the repos anymore.

Hi,
Well this is true, each linux user should be able to recompile it. But do you recompile all your packages, delviered with arch ?
According to
http://porting.openoffice.org/servlets/ … sgNo=14280
Openoffice 2.0 will be compiled with GCC3.4 support.
Should we wait unitl 2.0 to get a 686optimized package ?
I used the package build from http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … highlight=
changes 1.1.1 to 1.1.2. Downgraded my gcc3.4 to 3.2 ( We still have it ). Changed to XFree86. and compiled it.
Well, how do otrher distribution compile their packages ?
Is Archlinux the only one using GCC3.4 ? Have we changed too early to this new gcc release ?

I have a feeling the others are late.
GCC3.4.2 is out... you may already consider GCC3.4 old

Most vendors are working on moving to GCC3.4, Fedora has GCC 3.4 in FC3 as an example. We just adopted the technology before them I guess.
I personally can't wait for GCC 4.0 with Tree-SSA and other good stuff.
