[SOLVED]Touchpad not recognized as synaptics

I installed synaptics, edited the xorg.conf (got rid of all other mouse sections except for the usb mouse and touchpad), and my mouse is still using psmouse rather than synaptics. The mouse pad still works, I just really want the features of the synaptics touchpad.
I've seen other posts like this, but none of the answers have really helped. And in a lot of them, the person had the mouse recognized as synaptics at one point, mine never was.

Also, this is not affected at all by whether or not a USB mouse is plugged in at boot-up or any other time.

Note:
Turns out it had to do with it just not recognizing the touchpad as synaptics when I initially installed. A recent reinstallation has my touchpad running as synaptics with no troubles.

You may try to remove the mouse section too (usb mice work fine for me without mouse section). Also, are you sure, that you  device is /dev/input/input9?

Hello nickramos,

I changed the AlwaysCore/SendCoreEvents related stuff in your xorg.conf.  Can you try this and see if it works? (Absolutely no guarantee of success, but it works here!)  If there is no improvement, then you should probably post the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

@peart: Tried it, no change.

@Mr.Cat: I removed the USB mouse section ( in server layout as well) and that didn't do anything either.
And no, I don't know if thats where the touchpad is. I was trying different ones to see if one would work. I think it was originally /dev/psaux.

Oh and just so you don't have to ask, yes I restarted X after each change.

Xorg is not finding the evdev device for your touchpad.  Make sure you have both evdev and psmouse in your MODULES array (/etc/rc.conf),

They weren't listed under modules, which is strange because "sudo modprobe -r psmouse" makes my touchpad stop working.
In /proc/bus/input/devices it says this for the touchpad (after I added psmouse and evdev to modules and rebooted):

I use a synaptic touchpad too. I've lifted some bits right out of my xorg.conf and posted them here, I've no idea if this will be any help to you. I only wanted the synaptics installed because it meant I could scroll, use mousegestures and drag windows about via the touchpad & that all seems to work fine now:-
