I need this audio driver/interface/whatev to work. Alsa would be fine.
motherboard: GA-M57SLI-S4
Distro: Arch Linux x86_64
I know this soundcard works in Linux. Fedora 6, 7, 8 all recognized it and configured it. What's the deal?
Past: Redhat7 and up to Fedora 8 x86_64 SMP
Present: Archlinux x86_64

Doesn't it work? what doesn't work?
What says:
cat /proc/asound/cards
Can you hear a lot of rubbish when typing
cat /dev/urandom > /dev/audio
or does it says that /dev/audio doesn't exist?

I have the same soundcard, I gave up setting alsa for it after lurking for maybe 10 hours on internet for every piece of hint
(and I had a previous full-fledged working asound.conf for a nvidia hdaudio so ...)
OSS v4 works right out of the box, the micro too
I have only 2 problems : no sound in Phonon though everything else works fine, and no automute when a plug an headphone
Ah, good taste! What a dreadful thing! Taste is the enemy of creativeness.

See alsa-user thread. Sounds like you need to compile the very latest ALSA progs & kernel modules.
