Does anyone with a desktop undervolt?

I was reading up on undervolting laptop CPUs for my friend who is trying to tweak Ubuntu on his laptop to get as good battery life as XP. He's a Linux newbie, but more clever than I am. Anyway, I digress.

But does anybody do it for desktops? It will use less power, therefore lowering your power bill (maybe) and keep your CPU cooler, so why not?

I think that you'll get better results with cpu frequency scaling. Also consider using hdparm to adjust hdd powersavings.

I have heard using JFS makes the battery life of laptops last longer.

Re: Does anyone with a desktop undervolt?

On my desktop, I specificially bought the EE version of the AMD X2s which coupled with cpufreq allows the processor fan to shut off completely most of the time, and allows the 2 large 120mm side fans to slow. Mostly, it cuts down on heat and noise.

As far as power, thought, I was under the impression that desktop PCs always sucked as much juice as their power supplies are rated. Regardless of load.
