HI,
Right now I have 2 problems with sound
1.Dmix doesnt work.I cant run two applications to play sound . I looked at the wiki but its says that it is suppsed to be fixed in new version anddmix should be loadded by default.
2. I cant get any sound from alarms and notifications from Thunderbird/lightning. The only way to fix that is to use esd but when I use it, other applciations like vlc and mlayer dont play the sound properly(stutering).
Please help me !

Do you have a sound server installed like alsa?

Asound.conf is empty.
aplay -L

Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
mpd mplayer vlc, basically anything and Thunderbird/sunbird needs esd to be turned on but when esd is turned on flash, vlc and others dont work.

This is all covered in the alsa wiki, but i'm gonna take the time anyway 'cause i'm bored as hell
Do this for /etc/asound.conf
# asound.conf
# Make dmix the default device
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix"
}
# Make oss use dmix
pcm.dsp0 {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix"
}
ctl.mixer0 {
type hw
card 0
}
If mpd still doesn't budge, make sure you comment out output/mixer settings in /etc/mpd.conf, or point output to dmix:
# mpd.conf output settings
audio_output {
type "alsa"
name "Sound Card"
options "dev=dmixer"
device "plug:dmix"
}
