Firefox and swap

Hello,
When I start firefox, swap immediately (within about 5 seconds) starts getting used.  And when I turn firefox off, the swap partition is still filled with stuff.
How can I prevent this?  Both the initial use of swap and the retention of things in swap.
Thank you.

Re: Firefox and swap

You can stipulate cache values via (about:config) browser.cache.memory.capacity & browser.cache.disk.capacity. To disable cache: browser.cache.disk.enable & browser.cache.memory.enable are the desired keys that can be disabled. Additionally, it may be worth looking into making a ramfs for /tmp.
cheers,

The RAM I have isn't being used up completely in the first place - probably around 20% to 30% is being used when I start firefox.  The remaining 70% or so is completely bypassed, and swap is used first.

Re: Firefox and swap

What's your /proc/sys/vm/swapiness? Try lowering this setting and see if that changes anything.
