I have installed xfce4 successfully.But I don't know how to modify the resolution.I cannot find any xorg config file under /etc .
Can anybody help?

If you don't have a xorg.conf then you shouldn't be able to even start X. Are you sure you don't have one? If not, what config file are you using to start X? You're not running X as root with the test xorg.conf in the /root folder are you?

Make sure you followed that section of the beginner's guide more or less. Tell me where you're at.

xorg doesn't require a config file for basic operation on most systems. There are lots of ways to generate an X config to change your resolution, but this is one way:
X -configure
ArchWiki :: Xorg explains in detail how to set up X.

xorg will start without a config file these days. It will just autodetect the settings which will not be perfect. Have a look in the wiki for how to create one and modify it to your demands.
