[SOLVED] Fan Problem in Dell Latitude D630

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I've installed the new nvidia driver nvidia-177.80-1 and after its installation, and whenever the new driver is loaded, the computer fan enters in an endless loop of stoping-> running (30 sec. at most) -> stoping.

In order to check if this was really a driver side effect, I've downgraded to the previous version nvidia-173, and in fact the problem disappeared.

Has anyone had a similar behavior with this new driver?
How do I solve this?

Cheers,

I've seen this happen in front of me.

Disabling i8k and running with acpi=off doesn't help and the fan only starts when X starts. Maybe something in the changelog can help?

Re: [SOLVED] Fan Problem in Dell Latitude D630

Hi Everyone,

I've solved the problem by upgrading the BIOS version from A02 to A13.
After the upgrade, I've re-installed the new driver and everything works fine now.

Thanks in advance.
