Pardon me if I'm being an idiot here, but I can't seem to find a way to install a US English dictionary extension in OO3. According to the wiki the necessary files were included in the beta releases, but don't seem to be in the stable version. I also checked on the database of extensions opened by the extension manager and can't find anything, implying that maybe it should have been included.
Am I just missing something obvious?

I am trying to figure this out too.... There are dictionary extensions in /opt/openoffice/share/extension/install. I guess we need to install the right one from the extension manager. But even then I still get no spell-checking so I am missing something too.

Yep, no spell checking on my copy, either.
Not only that, OpenOffice is getting to be a bit on the porky side... oink-oink! I'm thinking about moving to AbiWord.
Not sure yet, though.

I just installed the English extension from "/opt/openoffice/share/extension/install" with the OOo extension manager. Auto spell checking didn't come up immediately but after clicking around a bit the 'your retarded and this word is spelled wrong' line under the words came up. And it all worked fine.

Great, thanks. Installing dict-en.oxt worked for me.

Can you define "clicking around for a bit" slightly better please....
Found out my problem. en_AU is not in the en dictionary pack. Changing the language to en_US fixed it.

I had to quit and restart OOo in order for the dictionary to work.

Clicking around meaning doing a few manual spell checks and restarting OOo.
