I just installed Arch in a VM following the Beginners Guide (I have done this successfully numerous times before). I installed KDEmod as the desktop and when I try to "startx" for the first time in KDEmod it starts, I see the mouse change, it starts to show the login window and then it goes to an xsession window saying there is a problem with kdeinit4. It drops me back to the console and here is the error:
"startkde: starting up...
kdeinit4: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2: undefined symbol :gzopen64
startkde could not start kdeinit4. Check your installation. "
I did some googling and all I found was this post(http://forum.arch-linux.pl/viewtopic.php?id=4502) and I didn't understand it too well nor did I think it helped. Any ideas?
Also, when I run /etc/rc.d/fam start it says No such file or directory? This never happened before.

Maybe the right place to ask is kdemod's forum?

Looks like a dependency issue. Are you sure you correctly installed all the dependencies? Once I installed kde with p -Sd and as a result got a similar error as you did.

I will try the KDEmod forums. Didn't know if someone else may have run into the issue on Arch before. Thanks.

I have the exact same error. Have you been able to fix it yet? If so, do you mind sharing the solution? Thanks.
