Re: webcam

Welcome to the forums.

Man, Google turned up hit after hit after hit for the webcam on that laptop. I searched for "asus a8js linux webcam". Look around for information on the gspca module. It's probably documented in the Wiki somewhere. Who knows, it may already be in the kernel? I have no idea.

your webcam should be supported by gspca driver (gspcav1 package in extra; should be included in the kernel package starting from 2.6.27) [EDIT: this info I got by googling what skottish suggested]

by the way 'not working' is not a good description of the problem. you need to be more specific if you want to get some reasonable help.

for instance - does the driver get loaded fine? (look at dmesg output)
does it work in other programs than skype? (eg ekiga, or there are other in the repos, search for 'webcam')
how does it 'does not work in skype'? eg. skype doesn't detect it at all, or the picture is garbled, or what?

I didn't intend to be offensive, but unless a specif question gets asked, then the answers are going to be generic.
