Screwed up X11 - help

My computer boots up to a blank screen and I can't even switch consoles..

Is there some way to do an interactive boot so that I can tell GDM not to start up?

If you are using lilo, type
init=/bin/bash
at the boot: prompt

It should be similar for grub.

I feel for ya. That's why I only boot to run level 3. Then being somewhat lazy, I have aliased "x" as startx. This way, if X fails, you are returned back to the command line.

Well, I'm using Grub.

unfortunately, that command doesn't work.   Does anyone know how to use the grub command lines?  It keeps telling me to load the kernel first.

Problem Solved!

I booted with an Arch CD, then mounted the hard drive and took GDM out of rc.conf
