[REQ} {dying to have} freepops in AL!

go now to http://freepops.sourceforge.net/en/modules.shtml

I have gmail but this could be useful for others too.
One can use Pop3 with hold files on server so they can also live there and in your favorite mail client

I would have done this without writing here, but I have to study for my exam 2 days from now..
if anyone gets to do this, I really thank him

Re: [REQ} {dying to have} freepops in AL!

I have created the PKGBUILD for this program and added it to my PKGBUILD repository located at http://neotuli.dyndns.org/arch/pkgbuild

EDIT: I was not aware of this software prior to seeing your post. I tried it out, and it works absolutly wonderfully, it makes me wonder why I ever lived with those stupid web-interfaces.

Re: [REQ} {dying to have} freepops in AL!

neotuli, thank you man!

for the guys that want alternatives there is also projects like this one:
http://fraggle.alkali.org/projects/gtray/

thanks again, I'll stick with POP3 {i hope leave messages on server will work}

EDIT:
I firstly get this:
cp: cannot stat `doc/manual*.pdf': No such file or directory
and then this:
sudo pacman -U freepops-0.0.16.tar.gz
loading package data... load_pkg: missing package info file in freepops-0.0.16.tar.gz

BUT if i just cd ..
then I have there the correct PKG!
interesting.. but confusing

I have the freepopsdscript and the PKGBUILD in the same Directory.

what did I do wrong?
thank you

the PKG is here anyways..

other than the above
it works for Gmail!
port is 2000
server is localhost
username there is username@gmail.com
in Thunderbird, I have leave messages on server until I delete them/move them from my inbox and it works as it was an IMAP.
everywhere else put the normal stuff and you're done!

it leaves them in the server, it does not delete them when I remove them from my inbox locally. this could be a thunderbird's issue, not sure anyways.
if you don't check the 'leave messages on server' it will delete the messages from the Gmail server, so it must be a thunderbird's issue or bug or sth like it.

Ok well first off, the package works...good.

Secondly, I know about the doc/manual*.pdf issue..for some reason docs aren't getting built...who cares..it's not like the abs system wouldn't just destroy them anyway. However, if you are still interested in reading the docs, go to http://freepops.sourceforge.net/en/doc.shtml, and read them there. It is exactly this reason (most docs being available online) that arch automatically deletes documentation directories during build. (see http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ArchLinux )

I've left out the relatively useless portions of a linux system, things like /usr/doc and the info pages. In my own personal experience these are rarely used, and the equivalent information can be obtained from the net if need be. Manpages all the way...

Ok..off that tangent.

Finally, you're using the wrong command to attempt to install the package, by typing "sudo pacman -U freepops-0.0.16.tar.gz" You're trying to install the source tarball that it downloads, the correct command would be

sudo pacman -U freepops-0.0.16-1.pkg.tar.gz

to install the package that is generated.

EDIT: for those of you that are wondering, the freepopsdscript ends up getting installed in /etc/rc.d/freepopsd , and thus you can simply add freepopsd to your DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf to make freepops automatically start and stop on system boot and shutdown.
