Today I did a pacman -Syu and got the following error:
:: Starting full system upgrade...
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: nvidia-96xx: requires kernel26<2.6.27Next I put the nvidia package in IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf, but again I get an error:
:: Starting full system upgrade...
warning: nvidia-96xx: ignoring package upgrade (96.43.07-5 => 96.43.07-6)
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: nvidia-96xx: requires kernel26<2.6.27Hmmm - strange! Next thing I do is to put nvidia-96xx to NoUpgrade instead of IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf, and that's what I get:
:: Starting full system upgrade...
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...

Proceed with installation? [Y/n] yIt seems that neither the IgnorePkg nor the NoUpgrade option in /etc/pacman.conf work.
Don't panic!

Just wait and run -Syu again later.
Kernel 2.6.27 and all updated module pkgs are currently spreading to the mirrors; when you synced your db you got the new kernel pkg but the nvidia pkg wasn't there.

@byte: Oki, now I understand the first two error messages:
* first error: because the new nvidia needs the new kernel
* second error: the current nvidia doesn't work with the new kernel.
But why does it upgrade the nvidia package even though it is in NoUpgrade in pacman.conf?

man pacman.conf ![]()
NoUpgrade is for individual files, you wanted IgnorePkg.
