hello,
after the last upgrade with pacman (including kernel image) I get this:
Failed to execute /init
Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel
Can you help? Why does this happen? (it's also nice to learn what is happening )

Post some data ...say from dmesg..can't help without data!
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

Unfortunately, I can't get you dmesg because the system never boots, neither from the normal image or the fallback. Now I have booted the PC from the Archlinux live cd. If you think this dmesg would help I can post it here.
I am trying to chroot to my system like this:
mkdir /media/md
mount /dev/sda6 /media/md
chroot /media/md
but I get this stupid error:
chroot cannot run command '/bin/bash': Exec format error
The filesystem however is there including /bin/bash with execute priviledges...

Ok! Apparently, I was trying to chroot from a i686 cd while I have x86_64 installed I burned a x86_64 live cd and I managed to chroot to my installed system. I reinstalled sysvinit and initscripts but after reboot I still get the same problem.
Now that I have chroot, any ideas on how to get my system running? the last thing I did was a pacman -Syu that installed a new kernel image...

Try chrooting into your system and then regenerating kernel images with "mkinitcpio -p kernel26". Sometimes this helps...

It worked! Thanks a lot!
