After kernel 2.6.27, X does not start

Hi guys!

Since I made the much awaited (and sometimes dreaded) pacman -Syu, the latest kernel was installed. Then, I updated ndiswrapper to the latest version (1.53) and catalyst (I actually downgraded that one from 8.9 to 8.8). I then rebooted and did the usual login at the shell and then I issued the command

startx

As stated in the title, X would not start. At first, it would say that the DRI module could not be loaded. I reinstalled catalyst and added

Section "DRI"
    Mode 0666
EndSection

to xorg.conf and the message stopped appearing. Still no X, however. Is there a known issue with this kernel with catalyst? Will there be a new catalyst release for the new kernel?

Anyway, I reinstalled kernel 2.6.26, catalyst 8.9 and ndiswrapper 1.52 and I'm up and running, but I would like any information.

thanks!

EDIT 1 : Oh, ndiswrapper won't work even with kernel 2.6.26...

EDIT 2 : Up and running, with this link http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=54224

I have the same issue. It seems after 2.6.27, dri suddenly can't be found. However it's here it's placed in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/fglrx_dri.so

(II) LoadModule: "dri"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module dri
(II) UnloadModule: "dri"
(EE) Failed to load module "dri" (module does not exist, 0)

It's quite odd and very annoying

Re: After kernel 2.6.27, X does not start

I guess the problem lies, again, in the ATI drivers. It seems to me that I had much less trouble on my desktops (which were all equipped with nVidia cards...

Anyway, I'll stick with the old config for now, hoping that one day my problems will be solved...

Now, don't get mad at me and say that Arch Linux is not for newbies and that I should try to solve these myself, but I am not a developer and being a student I don't have much time to learn to code wink.
