Weird DVD playback problem

Hello there,
I'm setting up a new Arch64 installation and I've got problem playing protected DVDs. I know that the media is good since it plays without problem on an older Arch32 setup. I know that the drive is good since it play unprotected DVDs. I do have libdvdcss installed and the correct region set. I've tried with multiple players.

With vlc (same output as my working arch32 setup, except for the gtk warnings) :

VLC media player 0.8.6i Janus

Nothing shows up at all, but the title lengths seem to report correctly.

With xine :
Same output, but I'm greeted with an error complaining about libdvdcss not being installed

With mplayer :
I get a bunch of errors like

a52: CRC check failed! 0.167 ct: -0.095 33/ 30 0% 0% 1.1% 4 0

It's also the only program that kind of lets me directly play the VOB files. However, the playback is REALLY choppy (too much to actually be able to watch the movie).

I've tried extracting the VOB files with dvdbackup but I get the same results. I just don't know what to try next and any help would be appreciated.

Thank,
Rognon

Re: Weird DVD playback problem

Does vlc 0.9.3 work? It just came out of the testing repo, should update next time you sync.

Re: Weird DVD playback problem

The new VLC version doesn't help at all. I also tried disabling the DVD menus, but this gives me a Segmentation fault.

Re: Weird DVD playback problem

I've tried with a bunch of DVDs and it seems that the problems does not occur on all protected discs, but only 2 specific ones. After trying and failing to play those 2, I assumed that it would do it on all protected disc, which is not the case. Well, it's not that much of a problem then. A strange one, but not that bat. I should have used a bigger test sample from the beginning...

Like I said,

So it's not a region problem, but thanks anyway!
