This is the error i get when i try to open terminal... sad
I googled it but none of the things i found helped me!
Can you suggest me something because that's a very serious problem as i cannot give any commands unless i ctrl+alt+# ? sad:(:(

Could you post some error messages? (Where to find them !? Good question, no idea what WM/DE you use, and I most likely don't use it so I have no idea where the errors are stored. Yay!)

It should be interesting if this turns out to be his problem. He said he googled but none of the things he found helped him. The first result when googling for the thread title (at least on this machine) is a LQ thread which provides the /dev/pts solution.

I have GNOME and the /dev/pts filesystem seems to be ok!I might be wrong though as i am a little bit newbie...:P
Other suggestions?

Downgrading gnome-terminal didn't work and also when i try to boot with failsafe Terminal i get:

xterm: Error 32, errno 2: No such file or directory
Reason: get_pty: not enough ptys

I just found something...I think the problem starts from here!

mount: can't open /etc/mtab for writing: permission denied

Can't mount anything and also can't change permissions to  /etc/mtab even with root privileges...

Any ideas?:/

can you change the perms from a live cd?

It was a problem with the reiserfs filesystem logically...I booted from a live cd and afterwards gave:

reiserfsck --fix-fixable /dev/sda#

Now everything seems to work fine...Thanks guys! smile
