With so little details hard to know, check the hardware first, is the analog or digital audio cable connected? If yes then I would take a look at the mixer you are using, probably alsa mixer, if it is type alsamixer in a terminal and check the volume settings for CD, make sure it isn't muted.
Thats all I can think of.

How are you trying to play audio from the CD? The more information you give, the better the chance that someone will be able to help.

An audio CD has no file system like a CD-ROM, while you seem to think it does . You need a media player that supports CD playback.
Simple as that.

I'm guessing you're not in the optical group (check by typing "groups" on the commandline)
If that's the case, add yourself using "gpasswd -a <user> <group>"

Sorry, time to hijack this thread!
My story http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=44488 is still not solved. I have been busy throughout this year, so I wasn't pushing too hard on this subject. But where can I find help? I don't think it's an single application problem, so I can't file a bug in cdcd, for example (mcdp also doesn't work, but audacity does).
Thanks for helping, and sorry again for hijacking this thread.
