Hi there!
I got an ALC861 inside my laptop. Sound is working, but i got no Volume sliders. I added several options under /etc/modprobe.d/sound i tried all models listed under alc861, but no one gave me a working volumeslider. Anyone got an idea how to fix this?

If you ask this question on the ALSA mailing list, the very first response is usually "are you running the very latest alsa?" So, I'd suggest updating to alsa-driver-1.0.18rc3 and see if the problems is fixed.

Could you run the lspci command again, but this time as follows:
lspci -nn | grep Audio
In my case this gives the following:
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller [8086:27d8] (rev 02)
The [8086:27d8] are the vendor id and device id, respectively.
This will allow us to know the exact hardware in your machine. It will also allow us to grep the alsa sources to see if your specific hardware is supported.
(As a side note: before a recent BIOS update, my sound chip had the following vendor/product ids: [17aa, 2066]. Now the ids are those I listed above. So, a BIOS update can cause headaches for users and driver authors)

Based on some other threads about kernel 2.6.27 sound issues, you might try blacklisting snd_pcsp. Add !snd_pcsp to the /etc/rc.conf MODULES array.
