Netpbm allergic to terminal

If I take a screenshot with gnome-terminal in front of firefox, I get the messy first attached image. If I hit alt+tab, the gnome-terminal goes behind firefox and the screenshot is fine! Both xwd images are fine and that's why I think it is something related to netpbm. Is it happening with anyone else? I'm running x86_64.
