Same here - when I saw all those dependencies I did a quick pacman -Rs vlc!
Don't panic!

Just out of curiousity: Is there a difference between a small VLC package with many small dependencies compared to one big VLC package (probably duplicating dependencies) which prompts you to uninstall vlc?
I have done no comparision, but I can't imagine the size to be much different.

I uninstalled the new version because I didn't want qt and jack installed on my system along with the 15 other dependencies that came with it. It's my fault for not paying attention untill after I said yes to the upgrade. Lesson learned.

qt's install size, not counting dependencies, is about 65 MB, so there is a difference. That's a bit unpalatable for minimalists. (I'm still using VLC, but I wasn't happy with all the new dependencies either)

Actually, I just switched to SMPlayer. I was trying to avoid Qt, and that was one advantage VLC had. I won't tolerate it anymore. SMPlayer is way more smooth...

That sucks.. qt looks great, but way too much bloat. Seems its a shared package though.. skype + vlc are using it so its not the end of the world. They should just try Tkinter or back to gtk+, for the smaller footprint.
Was thinking about smplayer; yet depends on qt4. What is eveyone else doing for shoutcast TV support?
We may only attempt to reverse engineer the future.. for now.

Hence the qt depsThats cool if you use KDE or don't mind mixing qt and gtk apps. Maybe we'll have a fork? vlc-qt and vlc-gtk? Anyway I'll stick with the old vlc for now. The funny thing is I installed 0.9.3 on my windows box and noticed the shiny new interface but didn't realize it was qt based.
I see nothing wrong here. [Screenshot: VLC 0.9.9a-3, GTK]
