Hey Archlinux people.

Ive been around for a while, but its not until recently ive felt the urge to participate more, and in time maybe give something back to the distro that i love.
I started using arch when the install cd was called noodle, it was my first meeting whit linux and i have to say, you guys did a great job. Tried many other distros, but i could never wrap my head around why they included so much crap in their distros. Arch was the perfect way to learn the internals, and somewhat keep my frugal philosophy on life and everything else.

Hello everyone.

Came upon Arch during my attempt to get useful life out of this Dell pentium III 1 Ghz computer with 256meg of RAM.  Was sluggish on Debian, seemed worse on Xubuntu, but now quite chirpy on Arch.  Not entirely smooth getting everything working, but I'm really impressed with the documentation here, which got me through most of the hassles that I had.

Hey all.

I've been using Linux for about 2 years. I started out with Ubuntu and it was pretty awesome to begin with. Then my Dell Laditude c640 lappy died and I was forced to use a 7 year old lappy. I started using Ubuntu command line installs and Fluxbox for a WM and I got my love for minimalistic configurations there. Then I got a newer laptop (a Dell Inspiron 8200) and installed Arch Linux, moved to openbox (for the themes and then found it better in general) and I've just been using that for about 4 months now.

I tend to be ADD when it comes to the programs/wms/whatever I use but I usually go back to my standard apps after a while.

Greetings fellow turing /in/complete beings.
I've been an ubuntu user for a couple of years, but being somewhat of a minimalist at heart I tried arch for the first time ...maybe a quarter to half a year a go, but when I couldn't find out how to get antialiased fonts working in X I gave up for the time being.
Now I'm doing a second try, and thanks to extensive help from MrElendig in #archlinux (thanks) I've gotten it to work.

I need a sorted list of all random numbers, so that I can retrieve a suitable one later with a binary search instead of having to iterate through the generation process every time.

I've been trying to figure out what to put on my desktop for a few days, and decided to give Arch a try... I expect to be around asking silly questions often enough... Wiki=friend.

Anyway, I've played around with Slackware (when I didn't understand linux at all), Ubuntu, Fedora and FreeBSD.

what's the haps everyone?  A friend of mine recently gave me an old HP circa 1999 or something around there; it ran WinXP o.k. but you know that's no fun!  Just thought I would stop in while waiting for these base packages to dl - talk to you later!

I'm a new user too . The first time I learnt about Arch, I didn't even dare to try it . I began with Debian, then Ubuntu and Fedora before coming back to my first real love, arch .

Hello guys, just installed arch on my machine. Now aleady for the first problem: I only installed core and have no browser. I can connect to my wireless (only option) and get a ping successfully. But my wireless is commercial, so I need a browser to login to my wifi. But I cannot install a browser without internet.

Catch-22

Anybody has any ideas? Maybe install browser (or whole kde) from CD (I have another working partition). Sorry if this is the wrong thread, you can also redirect me to another one.

EDIT: OK, I will also post this question under "installation issues".

Been using arch for about a month now, coming from Ubuntu.

Arch is amazing, I love it! It's fast, easy and fun in everyway. I'm using kdemod3 and man I'm so impressed how well this KDE is intergrated into arch! Beautiful and fast, I'm loving it!

Hello Arch Linux Users (aka archers ehehehe)!

Moving me from Slackware/Debian/Gentoo to Arch (7 days today) definitely and I'm very happy with it. The list of awesome features that I'm enjoying in Arch:
- Really fast boot in 15s (comparing with Debian), and I can improve/control it by send things to background
- In Arch the concept of KISS outstand Slackware in several aspects, like the central config file rc.conf
- I can install Just exact those software I really will use, really nice feature!
- I can build packages when I need using optimizations flags, like in Gentoo
- i686 Rocks!!! I don't understand why some distributions are ignoring this flag
- I will always get freshly versions of my favorites softwares without obscure/insecure patches
- Pacman works smoothly and with the best performance when compared with APT

Thanks for the good work, I expect to contribute with the community from now on

Hello there, guys. As you can tell from my signature, I've only been using Arch a very short time. I just came from about 7 months with Ubuntu. So far, though, I'm enjoying Arch (archery? architecture?) quite a great amount. I like the customization of it.

I notice a lot of people make the hop from Ubuntu for a while to Arch (myself included). Seems like Ubuntu is great for letting people get their feet wet, then it's time to up the ante and install Arch. I don't know if it's possible to fall in love with an OS, but I'm as close as I think one can be.

Hi, I'm Justin, and I'm new here. I've been using Linux steadily for probably about 5-6 years now, though I was playing around with Red Hat back in version 5. I've been a distro hopper for a while, and have tried all the major distros at one point or another. I am an ardent believer in the Slackware philosophy, though I was with Gentoo long enough to grow tired of compiling everything from source. So far, I'm enjoying Arch - my impression so far is that it's Slackware with powerful package management, which is perfect for a tinkerer like me.

I enjoy breaking my computer and then fixing it again, so I can probably help with many random problems :-D. You'll mostly find me in the Kernel / Hardware and Newbie Forums.

I started installing last night and just finished installing Xfce4 earlier today.  I've been using Linux for about a year (mostly Ubuntu but I have toyed with other distros) and was surprised how easy it was to get Arch running.  I've also been very impressed by how friendly the Linux community in general is.  It's great to see people being friendly and supportive even if they don't necessarily share the same views.  Thanks!
