Help with ipod

When I try to look at it's label with sudo mlabel -i /dev/sdxx -s :: I get

Total number of sectors (29255877) not a multiple of sectors per track (32)!
Add mtools_skip_check=1 to your .mtoolsrc file to skip this test

And it also says something to the same effect when hot-pluggin in ubuntu.

It's in vfat because I can mount it under linux without problems, but I can't get media apps (tried with amarok, gtkpob, etc) to recognize the ipod. Hal won't budge either.

It's a 2008 120gb ipod classic.
