Hello,
since yesterday I have Arch and I really like it but I am pissed off my resolution. I have a minimal resolution without the proprietary drivers.
I have a Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX and I installed the package "nvidia-96xx".
When I try to start with "nvidia" as driver, I get an error:
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex

I already googled and got a hit here in the forum -> http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=54517
But it does not help. They talk about the double slash... But I don't know how to change the path, because in the xorg.conf I only specify the driver to load, not the path.
What can I do to fix it?
Thanks

With a fx5200 you should use nvidia-173xx.

Thanks for your answer but 173 does not work.
You also get the latest driver for Windows and it does not work too. GeForce 5200 is already legacy.
On Windows and Debian I had to use a 9xx one...
Here's a part of Xorg.0.log:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure
(EE) NVIDIA(0): that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and
(EE) NVIDIA(0): that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Please consult the NVIDIA README for details.
Too bad... In the text-mode, I tried to run with "nvidia" and got this errors and another message... But the "info" was not shown...
There was also a message that I should use 96.43.07.
What now?

i have an fx5200, using testing repo
i installed nvidia-173xx and used hwd -u and hwd -xa to create the xorg.conf
after that i went in and added NvAgp 8 and told it not to show the logo on startup
im wondering if its your version of xorg...
My versions of xorg and nvidia:
testing/xorg-server 1.5.2-3
extra/nvidia-173xx 173.14.12-2
extra/nvidia-173xx-utils 173.14.12-1
