ROX mimetypes suddenly broken after upgrades

i upgraded these packages:

         jack-audio-connection-kit-0.98.1-3 arts-1.3.0-3 automake-1.9.1-1
         cdrtools-2.01-1 filesystem-0.7-3 kdeadmin-3.3.0-2 kdebase-3.3.0-3
         kdelibs-3.3.0-3 kdenetwork-3.3.0-2 kdeutils-3.3.0-2 lftp-3.0.8-1
         openssh-3.9p1-3 scite-1.61-2 sdl_mixer-1.2.5-2 splashutils-0.9-2
         wget-1.9.1-3

and i am now getting this error in ROX-filer:

The standard MIME type database (version 0.9 or later) was not found. The filer will probably not show the correct types for different files. You should download and install the 'shared-mime-info-0.9' package from here:
http://www.freedesktop.org/software/shared-mime-info

If you have already installed this package, check that the permissions allow the files to be read (check /usr/local/share/mime/globs or /usr/share/mime/globs).

obviously it was working before - i reinstalled the shared-mime and rox - no success!  help - out of ideas!  can't see how the packages would have affected this - and i did check the permissions
