Firefox 3.0.3 crashes

Since I upgraded my FF to 3.0.3 version it started to crash. I've never had such a problem with FF. It crashes on some specific sites and sometimes the crash is just random. Here is the konsole output from Firefox crash:

The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 45425 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

The site that causes Firefox to crash: http://www.gameex.net/

Cool, I had a very similar error.

LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/libflashplayer.so [/opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/libflashplayer.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32]

Seems like it has something to do with flash.  I'm using flash on Arch64 (as described in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _on_Arch64 )
I'm using the "local/nspluginwrapper-flash-beta 10.0.12.10-1" however (which comes from aur iirc)
I also use pulse audio and installed libflashsupport-pulse as described on http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pul … PulseAudio )

Youtube and similar sites, other flash sites work fine.

Re: Firefox 3.0.3 crashes

Do you have Compiz-Fusion enabled? - It's telling you that you ran out of available memory. - When I use Compiz I always tend to get this error in Firefox, Mplayer etc when I load a video or Firefox loads too much flash animation on a webpage.

Solution? As far as I can tell - Buy a new video card with more video RAM.

Re: Firefox 3.0.3 crashes

Don't think that's it.  I disabled compiz fusion and tried again. same result. I even removed compiz from my autostarted apps and rebooted and tried again. same result. (with xfwm4 instead of compiz)

Re: Firefox 3.0.3 crashes

I'm getting a similar error on arch (not x86_64).  even with the noscript extension active and blocking scripts, i just clicked on the link to the gameex page and firefox went down.

running kdemod3, no compiz in system, ff3.0.3 built from aur (firefox-optimized)
q6600 quad core with cflags -march=native -mtune=native -O2 -pipe

for what it's worth, youtube works almost flawlessly.  used to crash all the time with ff2 and ff3.0.0, i havent had youtube crash the browser in weeks

Disabling compiz didn't solve the problem. Video card also shouldn't be a problem. I have gf 7600gt (maybe not a high-end card) but my friend on gentoo also get that crash and he has gf 8800gtx. Looks like its a firefox bug roll

Re: Firefox 3.0.3 crashes

just tested the site on ff 3.0.3 (in windows), and konqueror (kdemod3 version), both loaded that page w/o problems.  so something in the ff 3.0.3 for linux + flash?

i'm using flashplugin-beta, are you guys using the 9.0 version of flashplugin?

Re: Firefox 3.0.3 crashes

Firefox used to crash on some sites for me, even if the site didn't have flash, after clearing out the files in ~/.macromedia/Flash_Player/ it is now stable

Re: Firefox 3.0.3 crashes

I'm having the same problem, mainly related to flash based sites.  No compiz or anything, kdemod 4, and flash from extra.

That site immediately crashes my browser every time.

I was having the same problem on a completely fresh install.  I found a fix listed at the AUR site: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16993
What worked for me was:
#mkdir /etc/adobe
#echo "WindowlessDisable=true" >> /etc/adobe/mms.cfg

Doesn't work for me ( nspluginwrapper-flash-beta 10.0.12.10-1 / Arch64.  More specs see higher in the thread) (I tried restarting firefox. no avail)

PS: I think most users will have this directory & file by default. the setting is at the bottom.

Re: Firefox 3.0.3 crashes

My firefox started crashing yesterday. I can't say for sure it has anything to do with flash, it started after I installed mozplugger to get wav files working, though I have uninstalled it now. It seems to crash on random events, opening a page, a keystroke, etc. Funny thing is if I start it again it gives me the option to restore my session and loads everything fine.

Edit: happening on my winxp laptop too hmm

Re: Firefox 3.0.3 crashes

installing "firefox-spookyet" from AUR solved most of crashes, and mega improved my firefox, it still crashes on the gameex site.
thunderbird still crashes all the time.
