I know that threads regarding IP spoofing/anonymous surfing/network exploration often get viewed with a well deserved suspicion, so I would like to make two things very clear to begin with. 1) That which I intend to do is totally legal and serves no malice towards anyone, and 2) I have searched the docs and the wikis with no success about the topic in question. Also, a hearty thanks to anyone willing to help me out.
So here is the situation. Being a student overseas last year in Japan, I have an account on the Kumamoto University's school web site. http://uportal.kumamoto-u.ac.jp/uPortal … ootNode.uP Contained in the site is a list of course descriptions for the various courses that I took, but when I login from the States side, it informs me in Japanese that "since your IP address comes from outside this university, you do not have access to your student records." I very much need these course descriptions to transfer credits to my home university, so I'm trying to find out how to identify the overseas school's proxy server from here, assuming that will get my IP within the right range. Once I know the proxy, I can configure firefox just fine to use that. I also have the IP addresses of several machines within the school's network (maybe that will help me a little), having received emails from my professors and what not. Any help on how to identify the proxy or get my IP accepted would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with the proxy question but another solution would be a vpn connection. The universities I went to all allowed you to establish a vpn connection to them and then you were "inside" their network, ip wise.
So if the university has that set up this might be worth a try.

Update. I think I stumbled across the proxy, but I'm not sure. If there is any advice on how to find out which port I should go through, that would also be appreciated. I don't quite want to do an nmap scan on my university, if you know what I mean.

Thanks WhiteMagic, I'll try the VPN connection and then report back.
