partially unresponsive gnome-power-manager 2.24 in testing

i'm experiencing periods of extended unresponsiveness related to gnome-power-manager 2.24.

here are the symptoms:

* the icon in the panel often takes ages to load
* a square area in the middle of the screen will freeze for 1-2 minutes while gnome-power-manager catches up.

a killall gnome-power-manager eliminated the problems.

has anybody else been getting this? is this a known issue/are the any workarounds available? maybe an old config file is messing with g-p-m 2.24?

I've noticed the square in the middle. It is where it puts up the brightness notification.
Not tried killall-ing it, I assumed it was because the laptop I'm using (AA1) isn't powerful.
Also not noticed the square area
And it isn't a user-config file because 2.22 never went on the laptop I'm using atm.

Re: partially unresponsive gnome-power-manager 2.24 in testing

good to know i'm not the only one getting this smile

nope, the AA1 was able to handle standard stuff more than adequately, only been getting the power-manager freezes after the 2.24 update.

one more thing. after uninstalling power-manager, i didn't get these freezes anymore, but i got occasional lockups (only a hard reset helped) which i think had to do with acpi events. seems to me like they happened after plugging in the power cable or after waking up the screen. i couldn't find any suspicious lines in any of the logs though.

as far as i can tell, this only happens in gnome. while using only the CLI without having gnome running, i haven't had any problems at all.

Re: partially unresponsive gnome-power-manager 2.24 in testing

i've noticed this as well, however it only seems to occur when the laptop is on battery power. an easy way to check when the applet has loaded is by adding the brightness applet to a panel. the brightness applet with have a red circle with an exclamation point in it if it cannot connect to the power manager. it takes about a minute to correct itself, always as soon as the power manager has loaded.
