Can't find UUID for USB device

Hi-------
I'm trying to follow this wiki guide. But when I do

udevadm info -a -p `udevadm info -q path -n /dev/sda`

I get an error that there is no valid sysfs device.
Also, if I do

ls -lF /dev/disk/by-uuid

my mp3 player is not listed there at all

How can I find out the UUID so I can map this device with udev?
