is this the driver issue or something i can change in the netcfg setting.
The internet is way slower in arch than in windows vista, the router is operating at 130Kbps and in arch firefox if i open any website the status says "looking" for particular site for sometime before it shows up. In windows it opens immediately.
Is there a tweak iam missing?

It sounds like it might be a problem with the wireless card driver. what driver are you using, and have you tried any others? (like ndiswrapper?)

It looks like you have a slow dns server (blame your isp), most probably vista is caching dns queries so it just knows the ip address of the website you want. You can do the same in Arch (the great Arch Linux wiki comes to the rescue http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pos … ll_dnsmasq ) or you can give opendns a try www.opendns.com

iam using the default iwl 4965, I have vista, ubuntu (ibex) and Arch on the same laptop and I am seeing this issue only with arch.
Websites open instantaneously in VIsta and ubuntu but with arch firefox keeps saying looking for the website for 40 seconds and then brings it up.
I am using netcfg to connect to my wpa-psk configured netgear rangemax router.
So by elimination I have figured it is not linux drivers or something, I think I am missing something in config where it is looking for something which it should not.
I just used the example WPA profile and made my profile from it.

Does ubuntu intrepid ibex also does the same thing as vista? Because it is as fast as vista

This was happening because of ipv6 module, so no ISP issue I disabled the module from loading using this page as the guide http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IPv … the_Module
Thanks R00kie for the link but the issue was not what you suspected it was.
Thanks
P.S only thing I am curious is why my older routed had no issues with ipv6 module

Oh .... while i was writing this you fixed it, nice but here it is anyway and yes ipv6 can still give a few problems
here works fine although my router handles only ipv4.
I really don't know. When firefox says looking for a site it's doing a dns lookup so it must be something related with dns. Try to check which dns servers vista is using, should be somewhere in the properties of the card (never used vista, stopped in xp). In ubuntu and arch do
cat /etc/resolv.conf
and see the servers being used .... maybe this doesnt help at all but I guess it is a step in the right direction.
You may want to take a look at this thread http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=52728
I guess it's not solved but there is more troubleshooting there.

both ubuntu and arch show nameserver 192.168.20.1 which is my router address.
but as i said now it is working fine.
Dont use vista too much either, had some memory issues, arch did not crash but vista would immediately do a memory dump....so just to check if the new memory is working fine i am using vista.
