hello all
so im installing arch now and i am at the part where i need to select the packages, but i am having problems.
if i pick the option to use the cd it asks me to mount something to somewhere and ive never done this before (never had to) and am confused.
if i pick the ftp/http option and pick a server i get error messages that say that it expected 7 tokens then it cuts off
i am very confused

You can mount a cd this way:
mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
This will mount your cdrom to the directory /media/cdrom
Of course since you are using the installer open another tty before you type the command. Press: ALT + CTRL + F3

I think the cd gives a suggestion to use, doesn't it? I always just use the default that is supplied and it hasn't let me down yet.

it prompts you to pick cd or ftp/http
if you pick CD it asks you to mount it
Offline
tried mounting /dev/cdrom to /src/core/pkg like the installer said and it said /src/core/pkg did not exist
Offline
Are you using the FTP install CD? As far as I know, that doesn't have the packages on it.

i cant remember...i downloaded it a while ago...and i typed the wrong error message...it said there was no mountpoint /src/core/pkg
Offline
i think i do have the ftp cd because when it says it automatically loads packages packages to the point, but then says no packages are there
but when i try and configure my network i either try the dhcp or whatever it is for wlan0 (i have wifi) it says it fails to load some dhcp-thing but if i hit eth0 (im not wired to anything) it says configuration successful...

Well I just installed Arch with the Core CD the other day and I'm sure I didn't have to mount my CD-ROM at any point. I recommend you try downloading Arch again and making sure you have the Core CD: http://www.archlinux.org/download/

trying that now...i hope it works because i cant get on my computer until i either install arch or reinstall ubuntu
Offline
install went ok but now i am confused about setting up my wifi connection...i tried to ping gogle and it said it coult not find host...
i believe i am using a lan (my computer sends the info to the blue linksys thing that sends it through the cable router) (ignore my poor use of terms)
any help would be great

also, when i try and enter iwconfig like all the tutorials and wikis say it says the command is not found

You probably didn't install wireless_tools:
# pacman -S wireless_tools
ARCH|awesome3.0 powered by Pentium M 750 | 512MB DDR2-533 | Radeon X300 M
The journey is the reward.

but then i cant install wireless_tools because i have no internet...

Well I just realized that wireless_tools is in core, so I'm not sure how you wouldn't have it. If you really don't have wireless_tools (pacman -Q wireless_tools returns nothing), you can install it from the cd in addons/core-pkgs with pacman -U wireless_tools-29-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz.
