Agh! Why did I ever have to install SLiM? For some reason, when I enter my username and password, it goes to my desktop (sans Tint2) and the cursor is just a black X. I can't open the Openbox menu or anything. How can I remove this pox?
[SOLVED] I had forgotten to put an & after a program in autostart.sh

Did you first read the wiki article on setting up slim? It's one of the simplest programs to use. It reads ~/.xinitrc as a startup script. You just need to add your window manager and any other programs you want to run to this file...for example:
tint2 &
exec openbox-session

Have you set your Xdefaults to display another cursor. I found that using the GTK file in the home directory did not work.

I love this guy! Thanks, I'll try that.
And I already have my .xinitrc set to run openbox, and when openbox starts it runs its autostart.sh which I have configured to run conky, tint2, pidgin, and set the background. The weird part was that my wallpaper was set and my conky was running, but the other apps did not start up.
e:Well, I'm using links to look at this. I don't think the problem was SLiM. It does the same thing when I startx. I had my cursor set in .Xdefaults, but I removed that. What could the problem be?

You probably forgot to put a "&" after one of the apps in autostart.sh
Happened quite a few times to me
Anyway, pacman -Rs slim still sounds like a good idea

Hahahaha!! You hit the nail right on the head. I was checking my autostart.sh to see if somehow tint got erased. First thing I noticed was the lack of an & after the latest program I had added to it. I added one and now everything is back to normal. Anyway, thanks to all of you for trying to help a confused noob who couldn't give you all the information you rightly deserved.

I actually made a thread sort of about that, and the main reason was if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The reason I wanted to remove it was because I thought it had messed up my computer. After realizing that it was a simple operator error (and correcting it) I removed it because I saw no use; text logins have worked for ages, and there's nothing wrong with them, so why change?
