to get access to the repo add this:

[testing]
Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/testing/os/i686

to your pacman.conf make sure it is above [Current].

Re: Gnome Desktop 2.8.0 in Testing

Its not working....

I hit startx and I come into gnome and the pane's are set exactly as before... the menu's are there exactly as in 2.6

BUT my desktop is blank... right clicking anywhere doesn't work...  logout doesn't work....

Any ideas?

Pacman didn't throw any errors either....

EDIT: I think it is working but Nautilus seems to be busted I believe...  I can't view any of the FS through the GUI only through console...

I suppose you are waiting a bit for the more extra gnome stuff that is included in the new gnome like evolution, epiphany, system tools, nettools,  hal, gnome-volume manager, etc?

Re: Gnome Desktop 2.8.0 in Testing

nettools/gnome-volume-manager will come, epiphant/evolution just need to be updated be dale.
system-tool i won't add them till there is decent archlinux support in it.
I just haven't the time to hack into it.

Re: Gnome Desktop 2.8.0 in Testing

the applet problem is fixed in testing. i was cause by an newer libwnck on my system. cause i builded gnome 2.8rc1 on my system earlier.

i have added gnome-volume-manager/dasher/ximain-connector.
if you are going to try gnome-volume-manager make sure you have udev/dbus/hal up and running wink
those are all added to testing.

*end*

Re: Gnome Desktop 2.8.0 in Testing

Soubmount is automount filesystem without hacking kernel, see:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … t=submount

My wife certainly doesn't know how to mount CD or removable media, even myself hate to do so everytime.

Thanks a lot for your input. I didn't try gnome 2.8 in testing repository, since I expect gnome will go to official extra in several days, I just wait a mimute, don't want to download all again in days.

Re: Gnome Desktop 2.8.0 in Testing

For me, the gnome theme switcher thingy crashes while loading. Something about an EOF in the thumbnail for 'simple' theme. I just built gtk 2.4.10, which didn't help on it's own.. so I guess it might be unrelated to the gdk-pixbuf bug that is fixed in this version. Ah well, I might try rebuilding the theme app as well..

hi,

it is said on www.gnome.org that Evolution 2.0 supports now Microsoft Exchange, but i don't see such a connector in the account configuration.
Is this an option at compile time ?

thanx

The execution is so slow with strace that the crash doesn't seem to get a chance to occur.. either that or some other side-effect of strace is preventing it. It seems to loop for ages with the following..

poll([{fd=6, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=10, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}, {fd=15, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=16, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=17, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=20, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=19, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=18, events=POLLIN}, {fd=14, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}], 11, 0) = 0
ioctl(3, FIONREAD, [0]) = 0

And no preview pictures for the themes are loading. If I knew a bit more about strace I might be more helpful..  roll
I'll see if I can find anything more useful..
