It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.
Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x6d)!
Maybe somebody will help me?

Try running x at 16bppp - if you're not already....
otherwise, try using -vo help and selecting a different out than xv

That's a bug with xorg.
a quick work around is to add this to the device section of your xorg.conf file
Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps"
Here's a link to the bug report.

I'm not sure about the distinction you're making between 'new files' and ones already on your system.
If you can play other movies, but not the 'new' ones then I guess that there's something up with the file itself...can you provide more information about files that will play, and files that won't, which -vo you're using, etc.?

Could it be possible that your new files are empty? That's how it seems. Do a "ls -s" on the files to check their size.

I also have big problems with mplayer lately...
No files do work anymore, that could very well be a xorg problem. But I also noticed that the latest version of the mplayer package isn't using and linking with OpenGL-Support anymore. Whereas older version of the packages were. I'd be very happy if they could be linked with OpenGL Support again...
