KDE4 'powerdevil' can't suspend with lid event?

Rather strange goings on here...

Suspend works fine with 'pm-suspend'.

Suspend works fine using the 'Solid' framework in KDE4 with 'solid-powermanagement suspend to_ram'.

Suspend works fine using 'powerdevil' if I set it to an event such as 'When Power Button pressed'.

Suspend fails, however, when I set it to the 'When Laptop Lid Closed' event. I know the event is triggered because powerdevil notifies me and says the system will suspend in 10 seconds, but it never does! I can't find any errors in my logs.

Any ideas?
