Hi to all , I'm a new user. It's the first time that I try to install Arch Linux.
I've created two partitions :
sda1 root 500 Gb ext3
sda2 swap 1 Gb
Ii've used hwdetect for configuring the system.
And i've edited the /etc/fstab , adding this two instructions :
/dev/sda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/sda2 swap swap sw
I've tried to install Grub but it's impossible. I've selected to install Grub on the MBR(/dev/sda) , and the root is /dev/sda1.
The error of grub is:
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... no
Checking if "/grub/stage1" exists... no
Error 15: File not found
My menu.lst :

I could be missing something, but this one looks correct according to your description. How many hard drives do you have?

Code:
/dev/sda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/sda2 swap swap sw
Why don't you try for the "dump" and "pass" values 0 1 for sda1 and 0 0 for sda2, and also set "defaults" for sda2, so it looks like:
Code:
/dev/sda1 / ext3 defaults 0 1
/dev/sda2 swap swap defaults 0 0

As creslin said, this one seems to be correct.
Try the following:
# grub (you get the grub prompt)
grub> find /boot/grub/stage1 (search for the file name /boot/grub/stage1 and show the devices which contain the file.)
so that Grub tells you where he thinks the system is located.
