firefox / new gtk file dialogs?

hi there,

i suspect there has been a gnome/gtk update recently. i don't use gnome but i use firefox and other gtk-apps which are using the common gtk dialogs for file opening, saving etc... the problem i'm facing is that the new dialog seems to insist on building little thumbnails of the contents of the directories i'm browsing. this is very inconvenient because it takes a fair amount of time to do this (over and over again).

so is there an option somewhere to disable the newly builtin thumbnailing? it offers no benefits when saving or opening files.

somehow the overall behaviour of the dialogs did change too. if i create a new directory the old dialog would take me to this directory instantly. the new dialog keeps sitting in the upper directory in which the new directory was created. i therefore have to navigate to the new folder myself...
