Ah, wolwheel is nice. Did anyone try to add the support the OSS4 mixer API?

i've just started using this and it's a great little tool. I had the same request as niten is it possible to make the icon update incase you use your multimedia keys?

volwheel --help
usage: volwheel [option]

-i --increase increase volume
-d --decrease decrease volume
-m --mute mute or unmute
-s --status show the current channel and volume
-h --help show this help
-v --version show version informations

ps: forget about this. i thought/expected that the cli options of volwheel would affect the trayicon. but this is not true.

pps: ok the cli options affect the trayicon, but the it changes only when mouse hovers above.
cannot the icon refresh automatically?

I'm using this with a SoundBlaster Audigy LS (alsa module snd-ca0106), which as no 'PCM' or 'Master' channel, the channel I use is called 'Analog Front', with a space in it.

I have to put this channel into VolWheel as "Analog Front" (with the quotes) for it to work properly, but work it certainly does!

I have the same problem as Super Jamie, but can't use the same solution. I have a SoundBlaster Audigy 2, so the card comes up as CA0106, as well. After experimentation I realized that the only functional channel was 'Analog Front', just like the post above. However, using "Analog Front" for "Default channel" and "xterm -e 'alsamixer -c CA0106'" for "Default mixer" only results in a not found message. Note that I use PulseAudio, so I have to specify the card in alsamixer as Pulse is the default.

Common sense would say to simply use PulseAudio, but my ALSA volume for my speakers and USB headset tends to be erratic, defaulting to zero most of the time. Also, modifying the ALSA volume has more of a dramatic volume change than PulseAudio for me.

Oh, and the GTK input boxes in the "VolWheel Settings" window don't expand when the window is widened.

This app is just what I was looking for a few days ago in the AUR. I mainly use Alsamixer to control my volume, but having to put up a terminal every time isn't as comfortable as using the tray.

One little bug I have here:

I've tried to get the icon in front of kicker (the kde panel) with compiz window rules, but it didn't work. Could you add something like stay on top for it? Also it would be cool if the slider gui didn't show up as an extra window in the programs bar, where firefox is, for example.

Note: As I took the screen, compiz started to fade it out.

VolWheel 0.2.6 is out ! This is a bugfix release. The new features will have to wait a little more.

I'm sorry but the behind-the-kicker bug is still not fixed. But it doesn't have its own window bar now

Same question for me too.
I'd like to cut off gnome mixer applet since it doesn't work properly with OSS4 and volwheel could be the right substitute.. :rolleyes:

This does the same thing with pypanel, I just never noticed it before since I don't click the icon. Anyways, by changing the type to "normal" it pops up where it should. Change line 359 to:

$winscale->set_type_hint('normal');

Or wait for oliwer to issue a proper fix, since my way is probably wrong for some reason.

To the OSS people : I've checked to code of ossvol and I think I can implement the same thing in VolWheel. Since I don't have OSS on my computer, you'll have to do the debugging for me

Installed in x86-64 machine.

Wheel adjusts volume when over the volume icon and when over the video cursor controls the video/audio position both forward and back!

Well that was quick ! For once.

Here is the first beta of VolWheel with OSS support (and the alsa part was completely rewritten too) : http://olwtools.googlecode.com/files/vo … ta1.tar.gz

There are more files to install than before so I added an install script. Look at the end of the readme. Then go to the configuration window and select OSS.

It should work...

Great work in a so short time!
Here something to fix:
- OSS driver has to be selected every time I launch volwheel
- When launched, volume slider is set to 0 too.
- When increasing volume from the tray, the slider doesn't move.
