Hi,
I just upgraded to the latest kernel using pacman -Syu. Now I have this annoying problem.......my system won't both. The system will initialize as normal (except it complains about not being able to load the gspca module) however after that it gives me a blank screen and loads for a while and then just gives me a blinking cursor. The only thing I can do after that is press Ctrl+alt+del to reboot. Nothing else works. The same applies when I use the fallback image. Usually after initialization I get the NVIDIA splash screen and then kde4.1 loads up.
What makes the problem even worse is that I can't get to a command prompt to downgrade or try and fix the problem. I'm essentially completely stuck.
Anybody have any ideas about how I could get out of this problem?

I'm trying to use the Archie Live CD. However for some reason this one hangs when its try to initialize the kernel. Does it matter which live CD I use? And once I am using some Live CD how do I mount my Arch partition and how do I get pacman to work?

Ok. I finally managed to get my system downgraded and things are working again. Thanks for the advice "koch"!!!:)
Ok however I still want to upgrade to the next kernel. Where should I start searching for the problem. Which logs should I go through.

Hi,
I finally managed to solve the problem. I managed to have a look at my logs and I found this problem:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) UnloadModule: "wfb"
(II) UnloadModule: "fb"
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.Fatal server error:
no screens found
So it was obvious that my X Server was not working properly and my NVIDIA driver was causing problems. So what I did was load the latest NVIDIA drivers using pacman. Previously I had used the NVIDIA drivers available from the NVIDIA website. So now everything works.
