I have a third machine at the moment (not in my signature) that I am using as a file server. Of course, I love Arch and I installed it on there. I am planning to use this machine for sound recording purposes. ALSA is not that great, in my experience, and gives subpar sound quality, so I am sticking with OSS and will only switch to ALSA as the last resort.
The machine has an ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 motherboard. I have been able to get sound working in ALSA with the snd-intel8x0 module, but for some reason, OSS doesn't recognize my onboard sound. I tried to modprobe the ali5455 module and this did not make matters any better. Does anyone else have this issue?
