recommendations for distro

I want to set up a box that acts like :

- router
- emule file shaing center

the router connects to the modem with DHCP (the modem provides) and provide DHCP to 2 linux and 1 windows XP boxes

the emule should have a GUI or GUI-like (i'd prefer ncurses or something like that) on the computer itself and remote control option with full GUI from one of the other linux boxes

the emule shared folders should be accessible on the network to the other 2 linux boxes (no need to the windows box)

the box i want to use is 120 MHz pentium / up to 4 GB hard drive (for OS - the less the better) + 500 GB external USB drive (for emule shared folders and temp) / up to 64 MB ram (the less the better)

the box should have 7/24 uptime

there should be option to easily plug in and out the external drive without shutting down the box (i.e. mount and unmount made easy for non experienced users)

i ask for recommendrd distro and emule client

Re: recommendations for distro

This response is going to be the most common: Arch. It's simple and lightweight. You can install anything you want on it, so emule and a DHCP server can certainly be added.

doesn't mean you can't use arch, just means you will learn to use makepkg more effectively. The arch repositories won't be of any good to you.

BTW, there was once a i586 fork of the arch repositories. It may still be there, just needs updating.

Re: recommendations for distro

Do you have a USB 2.0 PCI controller? I doubt you'd have much fun with the external disk otherwise - nowadays the download speeds easily exceed USB 1.1 transfer speed.
