Custom kernel and /lib/firmware

After compiling my custom kernel (with abs) pacman complains about the firmware files already existing in /lib/firmware when I try to install the package. I realize that firmware is not kernel specific, but how should I handle this (is it something in the kernel config or the PKGBUILD or something else?)
