Looking for a consistent icon theme for GNOME

I've been looking for a good looking, consistent icon theme for GNOME for a long time, but all the times I do that, I end up going back to Tango...

The problem is that usually those icon themes, although very nice, lack icons for some applications/actions/folders, and that's something I cannot bear on my desktop. Other times I end up having a mixture of icons, which makes the theme look very awkward.

Now I would like to know if you know any good icon theme that you can suggest me, according to the above "guidelines".

Thanks a lot! smile

Re: Looking for a consistent icon theme for GNOME

I recently switched from Tango to GNOME-colors. It adds a little more color to your desktop and you have to get used to that.
But apart from that it's a great icon set.

Re: Looking for a consistent icon theme for GNOME

Yeah, sorry, I forgot to mention that one... I know it, but I consider it very Tango-ish. I was looking for something a bit different. Either minimal or photorealistic. Just not Tango-like.

Thanks for your reply smile

Meliae (sort of minimal)
Hydroxygen (photorealistic, changeable colors)

Re: Looking for a consistent icon theme for GNOME

I have the exact same problem. I'm very sensitive to this, and it seems people in general aren't. (judging from all the sets on gnome-look)
In addition to gnome-colors and tango, the ubuntu human and tangerine icon sets are pretty consistent. I've begun to modify a few icon sets that are somewhat complete, to a level that is acceptable, because i can't stand looking at my desktop otherwise. It looks amateurish. bleh!
What if people would take the extra effort and make a complete icon set, instead of just throwing in icons at random. Look at macosx! That's the way to do it.

Re: Looking for a consistent icon theme for GNOME

well I totally like the echo-icon theme from fedora, which can be downloaded freely (https://fedorahosted.org/releases/e/c/e … .3.tar.bz2) and just didnt make it as default them for F10.

echo preview: https://fedorahosted.org/echo-icon-them … hemeStatus

A good second choice for me is always nuoveXT 2, which is osx-ish but *really* complete and consistent (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … tent=56625)

As a third I pretty much like all colored oxygen restiles for GTK (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … tent=83003)

Echo is an excellent icon set! And it's especially nice that the Fedora folks made their start here icon as an homage to Arch wink

I think hydroxygen are the best icons so far, now, they can be changed, and it is almost 100% complete. The best integration I have ever seen with the whole system is provided by hydroxygen.

Re: Looking for a consistent icon theme for GNOME

What kinda theme do you have going? I use Smokikon for gray-ish themes, MonoBlack for black and white, Hydroxygen for blue-ish but sleek, Gnome-Colors for more cartoony/colorful.

And in the midst of such perfection,
I can't help but feel diseased.

Re: Looking for a consistent icon theme for GNOME

For minimal I'd recommend the OpenWorld theme in this package http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=5375  It's a little bit cartoony, but in a fresh way.  It has a very consistent feel throughout the set as well.

Another vote for hydroxygen, looks nice and near everything is there.
