Hi everyone,
Just signed up to the forums after having used arch for a week or so and I must say, I'm really enjoying it. So far it is exactly what I was looking for!
I've come from Gentoo-land (even rolled my own distro for a while, Kororaa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kororaa), but got sick of having to compile everything and packages being old, plus all the other annoying stuff that's been going on over there these days.
So hello to all you other archlinux users, especially any other ex-Gentooers!
I hope I'll be happy in my new home

I think the Moderator will take care of it for you : )
Welcome to Arch. There's lots of ex gentooers (or people that use both) floating around here. I'm sure you'll fit right in.
In my experience with Arch, It goes through phases. Being a rolling system, Things can get a little dicey at times, or just require much more system maitenance than normal. Anyway I find the majority of those problems can be avoided by reading the announcments on the front page and checking the forum, before committing to major updates.
Hope you like it here : )

hey csmart, i just recently started archlinux too, only about 2 weeks ago. And i came from gentoo as well, like you, i got tired of messing with it. I personally found arch to be my happy medium between gentoo and ubuntu.
peace

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone
The more I play with Arch, the more I like it. I just discovered yaourt which lets me use Arch to build packages sortof like emerge. I'm sure there is lots more to learn, which I'm looking forward to! I'm sure that one day I'll be able to give back, but fIrst I'm scoping out the community spirit
By the way, do you call it "Arch", "arch", "Archlinux" or "archlinux"? (Or something else?)
Welcome!
I still remember Kororaa. You were one of the first that released a live-CD that could show off the brand new XGL, which I really enjoyed at that time.
Have a nice stay
Yeah, that was so much fun. Came across a pretty well done youtube video of it the other day, which brought back memories *sniff sniff*

Arch Linux, as is in the front page.
Well, welcome to the community, I do remember Kororaa and some of the problems it dealt with in relations to proprietary packages being included. Though I never used I was a Gentoo user. But well, welcome and enjoy your stay.

Welcome to the forums csmart.
Kororaa was really fun to show off to people. It's was the first distro that I remember that had all of the wobbly stuff going on.

so, what's now?
emerge --oneshot Arch\ Linux
Does portage support that? (welcome abroad man!)
They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.
