I've used x64 Arch for a while, but from all the switching I did between KDE4, LXDE, Openbox, and Fluxbox (and a few Xfce files for Thunar) my system was so cluttered with crap that I decided to reinstall. Everything worked like a charm, including getting my ipw3945 to work... until I decided to install the drivers for my Nvidia Quadro NVS 110M card. I did
# pacman -S nvidia
, and got about ten messages that some of the dependencies, including ndiswrapper, required kernel26<2.6.6. Is there some way to resolve this other than using my emergency FaunOS and Ubuntu live CDs until the transition to the new kernel is completed?
EDIT: I realized that without gaming, I don't need 3D support. I'm using the xf86 non-proprietary driver.

Run pacman -Syu, watch out for .pacnew files and any other upgrade hints, pacman -S nvidia, reboot, done.

Download from nvidia.org site drivers for linux and install it on your own hand by running ./nvidia-name-file-sth.run

Note that, though possible, this is not recommended and strongly discouraged.
You will eventually most likely run into conflicting files when using pacman to update either some parts of the kernel landscape or some parts of X.
Both quite fundamental and essential parts you probably don't want trouble with
